How To Replace Your Old Flush Mount Ceiling Lights

Replacing a flush ceiling light can be easy and will not even require you to hire an electrician to do the work. Just make sure you get everything prepared first before touching any wires or taking off fixture parts.

First, make sure the power is off. Flip the circuit breaker at your power panel of your house. Check again with an electrical tester. Electrical testers can be purchased at any local hardware stores at reasonable prices. Get the simple one that lets out a beeping sound when electricity is detected. Hold the tester up to the fixture wiring and switch off the wiring when you hear the beeps. Let it be your guide when switching the circuit breaker.

Remove the old light fixture with a screwdriver. There would be two screws, two electrical wires connected to two electrical wire nuts. Unscrew the wire nuts and the green ground wire connected to the fixture. Then remove the fixture completely.

Install the new flush ceiling light. Attach the hot and neutral wires to their respective wires from the ceiling. Hot wire to hot wire, neutral wire to neutral light and then attach the green ground wire to the grounding screw on the box. Take the two screws you have just removed and fix in the new flush ceiling light. Mount the light bulb and turn the circuit breaker on to give your lights a test.

But if you really are in doubt about the fixtures or when you are not comfortable in doing the replacing of flush ceiling lights, better call an electrician and leave the work to him or her.
